Jose Ponce Jr.
Search strategist. Founder of BrightBlitz. Fourteen years spent learning how brands get found, understood, trusted, and chosen, and now writing it down.

What I do now
I help business and marketing leaders make sense of search visibility in a landscape that no longer stops at a results page. Buyers discover options through classic search, maps, reviews, video, publisher coverage, and AI answers that synthesize all of the above. My work connects the technical, the editorial, and the evidentiary sides of that problem: how a brand is structured for machines, how it is described for people, and how its claims are corroborated for both.
The commercial side of that work runs through BrightBlitz, the agency I am building. This site is where the thinking lives.
Technical roots
The work that taught me how to reverse engineer
I did not start in marketing. I studied network systems administration, then moved into technical support. I enjoyed helping people who were frustrated, out of answers, and not comfortable with the technology in front of them. That work eventually led me into data recovery.
From 2004 to 2010, I worked for CBL Data Recovery. I spent the first three years as a lab technician. When the company expanded, I volunteered to move to Houston and open a new lab. I managed the lab while continuing to handle intake, assessment, recovery work, and clean-room procedures myself.

The physical work was the fun part: opening damaged drives, replacing heads, moving platters when required, and working through fire, water, electrical, and circuit-board failures. But the physical repair was only the beginning. We still had to extract the binary data, understand what remained, and reconstruct usable information from it.
The manufacturers did not hand us a recovery map for every failure. We had to reverse engineer the system in front of us. Those six years trained me to keep looking when the first explanation was incomplete and to work backward from observable behavior until I understood the mechanism underneath it.
That habit followed me into SEO and now into AI-era search visibility. When a site, search engine, answer system, or discovery channel behaves unexpectedly, I do not stop at the symptom. I take the system apart conceptually, test what I can observe, reconstruct how the pieces interact, and keep going until the behavior makes sense.
Into SEO, then an agency
I began working in SEO in 2012, when the discipline was already shifting from tricks toward infrastructure. In December 2014 I co-founded Authority Solutions, a search marketing agency, and spent more than eight years helping build it. I led SEO operations, developed search methods and delivery systems, trained the team, and directed client delivery.
The agency earned industry recognition during those years, and one recognition was individual. Named Influencer #9 in the SEO Intelligence Agency's Best SEO Influencers Of The Year list (2018). In 2019, CIOReview featured the agency in its Top 10 Google marketing companies coverage.
In 2023 I sold my ownership stake as part of a transition and moved into consulting: agency advisory work and complex search engagements where the interesting problems tend to hide.
Building BrightBlitz
BrightBlitz is the marketing and implementation agency I am building now. It applies the search visibility approach you will find across this site: evidence before claims, consistency before volume, and implementation discipline before dashboards. Service details, proposals, and engagements live on the BrightBlitz side; this site stays a publishing platform.
The book and current research
I am developing a book for leaders about how brands stay visible, credible, and decision-ready as discovery expands across Google, AI answers, and emerging agentic systems. It is genuinely in progress: no final title, no announced date, and a page that tells the truth about its status.
From student to contributor
For more than a decade, conferences were places where I went to learn. Speakers I admired became acquaintances, then friends, collaborators, and colleagues. As my own work matured, my role changed. I was no longer only absorbing what others had to teach. I began contributing, supporting others, and being invited to share from the stage.
I spoke at 404Con in 2026, with invitations to SEO Rockstars and SEO Spring Training following. I am grateful for the trust behind those opportunities. It reminds me that authority is not the same as notoriety. It is built through relationships, contribution, and the willingness to keep showing up.

Values, briefly
I believe the customer is the hero of every engagement and the practitioner is the guide. I believe proof beats polish, that clear writing is a form of respect, and that the most useful thing an expert can do is make their thinking checkable. If something on this site makes a claim you cannot verify, tell me, and I will fix the claim or publish the source.
Life beyond the workThe people and experiences that keep me grounded
My wife has been beside me through the work and the life around it. She has joined me at conferences, traveled with me, and supported the seasons that made these opportunities possible. Those experiences remind me that a career matters most when it is part of a shared life, not a replacement for one.

Travel, cruises, golf, faith, and time with people I love help keep the work in proportion. They create room for gratitude, perspective, and the relationships that make the work worth doing.

Relationships matter more than money
Richard Rose was a dear friend who poured into me in his later years. He had a way of asking questions that made me re-evaluate what I believed success meant. Our conversations helped me see that life is not about money, fame, notoriety, or prestige. It is about faith, relationships, service, and the people we are blessed to walk beside. Richard changed the trajectory of my life. I consider our friendship a gift from God, and I do not take that gift for granted.
